WHAT'S NEW @ MC MCSE:
Here is what weve been up to:

We have completed our new practice test for the A+ Operating System Technologies(220-202) which can be found in our Testing Center at http://www.mcmcse.com/cgibin/quirex/index.cgi. This exam contains 90 free questions.

Want to write for us? Many sites accept submissions from their users, but do not offer anything in return. We have created a new program in which your contributions will earn you entries into a drawing for prizes that will help you get certified. Writing for us is also a great way to improve your resume. For details please visit http://www.mcmcse.com/contribute.shtml. You will also see a link "Current Prizes" that you can click on to find out what we are giving away. The current drawing ends on July 31st.

SUBNETTING CONFUSION:
In our last newsletter we wrote an article entitled "Battling Incorrect Information" in which we briefly mentioned some of the confusion regarding IP subnetting. After receiving some requests for clarification, we decided to put together an article on the subject since it will affect what you need to know to pass many of the various certification exams that will test you on TCP/IP. If you are planning to take any exam that requires subnetting knowledge, you should probably read this. The full article is located at: http://www.mcmcse.com/articles/subnetting.shtml.

MICROSOFT'S NEW WINDOWS XP WEBSITE:
Microsoft recently unveiled a new website for Windows XP entitled "Expert Zone". The site offers usual shameless plugs about the product, however, it also includes tips and tricks, links to newsgroups and editorial columns.

Visit http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ to check out Expert Zone.

FREE ONLINE TRAINING VIDEOS:
There is an emerging trend among certification prep websites in which free online videos are being offered. Sure they want you to buy something, become a registered member and may even send you email, but some of these resources are worth checking out. There are currently very few offering this medium, but you will find a couple of good ones below.

CBT Nuggets:
This company sells their videos, however, they have a free section that contains some valuable Windows 2000 videos.

Freemcse.com:

SURVEY RESULTS:
Our most recent survey question asked, "Approximately how many total hours do you spend studying for an MCSE exam?". The results were as follows:

22% - 0-5
12% - 5-10
12% - 10-20
55% - 20+
There were 1763 respondents.

It is tough to say why there is such a disparity in the number of hours people require to study for these exams. Needless to say, it would be difficult to read a 500 page book and take practice exams in less than 5 hours. This group must either have a lot of experience or they are using questionable study methods.
