I have been asked back for a second interview for a job that seems really great.
They said they need someone to improve upon password security for files and troubleshoot e-mail. I was wondering if any of you can give me advice on the best and easiest ways to do this for them. They run XP and 2000. Most of them use Outlook. All responses are appreciated. Thanks. _________________ A+

headhunter you belong in CCIE section right? this place
is too beneath you. we spell wrong and are not as good as you
just face it...........
anyways, about your email troubleshooting.
I would say make sure email server path is correct when users have issues, and just know the MS Outlook software is a plus. most users
don't really have a clue how to make a signature block, find their archive folder.. Make sure their archive folders are saved toa safe place. we have it where i work(yes headhunter i actually have an IT job!) we point their archive folders to their user folder and save it in a folder called Email Archive. Understand Exhange server and how it plays a part in MS Outlook client interface. www.trainsignal has great CBTs on Exhange Server and get and MS Outlook CBT. tell them you are good at document
problems and you keep track of trends in problem solving. They are most interested in your ability to solve problems. YOur A+ speaks loud. Just
answer them in a waythat convinces them you can solve issues and you have yoru resources to do so. Good luck man!

Helpdesk is all about troubleshooting. Each company or software helpdesk has their own set of tools, software, OS, etc. When hiring for a helpdesk, they aren't worried that you know how to fix or run Super Duper Application with Retsin. All they care about is that you know how to do basic troubleshooting, and they will probably ask some technical questions, but most likely will have you do non-technical troubleshooting as well. For example, one help desk job wanted me to figure out why someone's lamp kept turning off every day at 8pm...things like that.
Go in with what you know, troubleshoot the problems they give you to the best of your ability, and when you don't know the answer to something, don't try to BS your way out of it...be straight up and say that you don't know. If you are right for the job, you will get it. And remember, it may not always be your technical side...it could be that you get a job because you are a good fit with the team as well.
