MCSA/MCSE Self-Paced Training Kit (Exams 70-292 and 70-296): Upgrading Your Certification to Microsoft® Windows Server™ 2003
I'm going to assume you haven't any certification at the moment?
I would recommend totally avoiding the 2000 MCSA/E, and heading for 2003 MCSA/E. If you already have a number of MCP exams for the 2000 track, then, I would do as you are looking to do. _________________ David Jones BSc (Hons)

I have got my 70-210 exam on Friday, I picked the MCSE 2000 over 2003 because I want the experience in win 2000 and 2000 server and when completed I will upgrade to MCSE 2003 or that’s the plan. I know it’s the long way around but I want to improve my knowledge by knowing the 2000 stuff first and then 2003. I believe an MCSE should know both paths but that’s just my opinion

But why pick up a certification in old technology, where businesses now are looking to migrate to 2003?
You may struggle in situations where you apply for jobs that require 2003 Certified people?
Taking the MCSE in 2003 in my opinion is far more worthwhile as it will cover more or less everything in the 2000 world, and pick up on the new features of 2003 no?
Well, if you've only got 70-210, this can still be used as the Client exam for MCSE 2003.
So, you still have time to consider BOTH paths.
But i'm sure many members on the boards will agree with me that 2003 is by far the better path to go.
UNLESS, of course, you currently work in a 2000 environment, and you that this isn't going to change for a long time. But Since Windows 2000 just entered EOL status... How long before businesses will want to move to 2003? Can't be long if there is "less" support for 2000?

Your probably right. If i can use the 70-210 exam towards to 2003 then i might as well go for the 2003. And plus i could always do the 70-215 Win2k server exam if i wanted the experience. Only problem i got is that i don't have windows 2003 server and its rather expensive any ideas?
Also if i do the following exams and pass will i achieve a MCSE 2003 or do i need to do more?

Hey no problem
Don't let me change your mind just by reading what I have to say though, I might be wrong, but I'm sure i've seen it suggested before.
By all means, you canpick up the training guide for 70-215 to fill out your knowledge on Windows 2000 Server.
With regards to 2003 however, my advice would be to pick up the "Core Requirements Training Kit" for Windows Server 2003. It cost me around £93 in the middle of last year, and it came with Windows Server 2003 (albeit an evaluation version, but still, something to use and study on!) - EDIT - this kit covers 290, 291, 293, and 294.
Hope this is of help. _________________ David Jones BSc (Hons)

70-210 - That covers the Client Exam
70-290 -|
70-291 |- These are the four Network System Exams
70-293 |
70-294 -|
70-298 - Design Exam
70-284 - Elective
Yeah, looks good to me
You can also do 70-285 (Designing a Microsoft Exchange 2003 Infrastructure (I think)) and get MCSE 2003: Messaging. _________________ David Jones BSc (Hons)

That's exactly the kit.
The Sybex books dont go into enough detail for me. Especially from what I found from studying my current exam (291)
The MS Press is a safe bet. _________________ David Jones BSc (Hons)

We're just migrating from NT to 2000/XP here. But I still agree that getting certified on 2003 is the best approach. That's what I plan to do.
Well 2000/XP is still certainly a very good combination, but I don't see how I could justify getting certified on a product that is now EOL. Does that make sense?
Also, at work we are now going from NT4 -> 2003/XP
So, it's all swings and roundabouts I guess!
EDIT - What I probably should have pointed out is that businesses in general should look to migrate to 2003, as opposed to stating it as fact.
