Hmm...first of all...get some experience with those operating systems...Install them onto your PC...3 times? Wow that sucks dude! / Sorry
Umm...Do you know the key boot files? Requirments? All the tools provided in each OS? The differences between NTFS and FAT <? And which OS provides which? Installation? Upgrading? Trouble shooting? Registry? Dos and Dos commands? How to find stuff? Methods of backup? Protocols? Ports?
Theres alot more.... What exactly are you having trouble on?
What OS HAVE you used if you have no exposure to these OS's? . You shouldnt get too many questions on NT or ME, but will for XP & 98, maybe 1 or 2 for 2000.But surely not specific ones on these OS's like "what is the difference between XP home & Pro or 98 & 98SE?". More like "how do you access, windows explorer, printers, control panel, registry in XP or 98?".
They are really after general knowledge like acessing the above I just mentioned. Not how to terminal server onto an 2000/XP Pro or setting up RIS (remote installation services) or group policies etc. The MCP cert covers that. Maybe questions like how do install recovery console, ntbackup or what OS does not have device manager you may find.
Also, if you have no exposure to these operating systems, go to a library & use theirs, its free. But they may have their gui's locked down to a certain extent to stop people screwibng them up. So maybe try an internet cafe. You will at least get some exposure to XP Pro there.
XP Pro does have some differences to XP home, but I wouldnt have thought they would delve into the minor differences too much.
Just have the fundamentals down go through this site & score between 85% to 95% repeatedly & then you can say you are ready.

Well, that's pretty much the entire exam. You're not going to pass just by reading books and memorizing practice questions (and if you do you don't deserve to).
Don't waste any more money until you've gotten hands on with the OS. Mobius and Devilface pretty much covered the stuff you should get hands on experience with before throwing away any more cash.

Lol what have you been using at home and at work? Maybe you should do the Linux exams. My advice - get a really cheap comp, and install and mess around with all of these, or as many as you can. _________________ "The linux user environment still isn't as good as windows..." John Carmack

i have learnt alotin this course, but i have only ever used 95,98 and xp home.
i didnt even know there was a 98 SE until they asked 3 questions on it on my 3rd exam.
i throughout all 3 exams i have got ALOT of 2000/ 2000 pro and NT questions. i got about 5 xp pro last exam. and i couldnt tell u diff between os that use pro and which dont.
i think ill have 2 go and print out comptia's list and tick everything i know and what i dont. I have absolute 0 xperience when comming into the course as i only just turned 17. Like i said i have learnt alot, and its all gona help in the long run.
My work has a NT os which iv mucked about with as much as i can to see stuff, but like you said admins hide alot of the stuff.
dos, regedit, xp home, cmd, networking, installations, i know real well.
will go and download the list now thanks alot guys appreciate it
And how can you pass a certification exam when you have never used any of the operating systems covered? _________________ Did you know?

Yes i would have to agree with jsprague i am 19 and in college for Computer Electronics and i would have to say its been the best thing i could have done since being in collge i have obtained 3 MCP's (270,290,291) and my Network+ and hope so soon get my A+ within the next month. by doing it this way i have aquired more hands on training then could have ever had on my own or by reading a book. You can't beat a good college education _________________ "We have no intention of shipping another bloated OS and shoving it down the throats of our users."
