On March 31st, 22 Microsoft exams from the Windows 2000 track retired. You can view the complete list here. Microsoft states that some of the exams may be available for a short grace period beyond this date. Check with Prometric for availability.

Retirement of these exams does not invalidate any certifications that you may hold.

I wonder if 218 and the 2003 upgrades are still available. Not that I plan on taking them, but maybe if I had known they could be taken after their "official" retirement date, I could have better paced myself and passed. Oh well, I had plenty of time to do them, and never did.

Anyone want a useless 210 and 215 cred?.....I guess I'll start working on Server 2008 stuff, as I think my boss wants to go there asap.....

I have a very useful HP-UX certification if anyone wants it. It has really served me well. Rolling Eyes

I don't even list it on my resume anymore...

I passed my exam using the 2nd shot on March 28th. The exam centres were sooo busy i was originally having to travel 40 miles by public transport to a test centre. Luckiy there were some cancellations. I took the exam and passed just before i thought the exam would 'retire'. I was ellated. I have since phoned prometric and they have stated the exams will continue to beb available untill the 25th May. This is not gospel and could be changed. As regards a worthless 210 and 215. The 210 is an acceptable client exam on the 2003 route. So i would not consider it worthless. And you are an MCP. I would not consider that worthless either.
The retirements been a long time coming, but i did wonder....what would it really cost to keep the upgrade exams at least going a few more years ?
There are plenty of companies still on 2000 and some even on NT4. I passed so it is a moot point. Still its nice to think i have an 2003 MCSA and 2008 just came out ! But i will be working hard to get the MCSE before any 2008 exams cross my path.

In fact as some of the 2003 exams are actually backwards compatable, if your lucky, and microsofts automated MCP computer plays ball you could still potentially attain 2000 certs, all be it with out an upgrade exam available to do.
By a quirk i have the 210,215,216,218,and 217, Meaning i can in theory do the 297 and a 2003 elective to get a 2000 mcse ! How peculier is that ?
I will focus on the 293,294 and 297 for a 2003 mcse, but if i could get a 2000 mcse as well !? why not i say ? Anyone else in this sort of odd posistion ? (I have to upgrade my MCDST and that can count as the elective in the 2000 path so fingers crossed on the next...4 exams !)

Edited a load of stuff, didn't realise you had passed 292...

I was in a a similar position, at the end of last year was thinking of sitting 217 and doing the double, but in the real world 2000 MCSA, 2003 MCSE is just as good, it shows that you kept working and stayed current.

But since you have 217 as well, if you get a 2000 MCSE why not? So long as you don't need to sit any extra exams.

Post subject: Doing Win 2000 certification with Win 2003 cert?

In 2002 I did the following windows certifications and passed the below exams:-
70210
70217
70216
70215
But I did not complete the MCSE certification!!!
And now I want to complete the exams but Windows 2000 certifiation is no longer offered in major Institutes!
However I went to a nearby institute and inquired about the courses regarding MCSE and they told me these Win 2003 courses(exams) are offered:-
70270
70291
70293
70290
70284
70294
70228
Now I have already passed the 4 Win 2000 exams, can I just do remaining 3 exams from the win 2003 exams to get my MCSE certification completed??? Or do I have to do all 7 again?
Anyone has any suggestions please advise!!
Thanks.

The only exam you took that will count towards MCSE or MCSA 2003 is the 70-210,you will need to take the rest of the 2003 exams to get MCSA/MCSE 2003 status.

This is correct, all your old exams have unfortunately been retired, and can no longer be used to fulfill the requirements of an MCSA/MCSE.
