Whoa! Just passed the Essentials with a 745. To be honest, I wish I had more time to study and be more prepared but I am under a lot of pressure currently to get a job.
I was nervous as hell! And to top it all off, the monitor in which I took the test on had an extremely low refresh rate and I had a pounding headache by the end of the test!
I take the 602 - IT exam on Monday and although passing the Essentials took a load off, I am still extremely nervous. I am going to study my arse off these next two days.
My tip to those taking the Essentials: Really know networking. I was blown away by all the networking questions. Second, know windows tools in and out and how to use them to troubleshoot a computer. I also got a lot of information on troubleshooting laptops and printers. My test focused entirely on the troubleshooting aspect of devices and OS's and had hardly anything to with 'concept' or identification of devices.
Anyone who has taken the 602 have any advice? Word of mouth is that it is like the 601 but easier due to 'common sense' customer service questions. And then I hear from people that it was actually harder!
Thank you all very much for your help. I'll let you know how I do on the 602!

I just passed the Essentials this morning. It was a little bit harder than I expected but a pass is a pass no matter what the score. (770) Anyone have any advise for the IT technician one (602)? I have heard it is very similar so any quick comments on how it differs besides weighting the areas differently and requiring a higher score? _________________ Who is this Joe fellow? Is the essentials exam similar to the practice exam on this site! Also, any advice on particular areas to study, that seemed to show up more then others. Going to be taking the essentials sometime next month. I've seen in the forums that the networking aspects would be good to study up on.

Well, my exam either didn't have much on networking or I just really didn't notice because I already have my network+ so I know that stuff like the back of my hand so I didn't think to much of it. I will say, know how to get to different utilities and tools in XP from every avenue possible. For example, not on my test but it would be things like how to get to command prompt. The answer will be c:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe. Now I just type cmd at the run line so don't just know the logical ways to get to different tools such as defrag, disk cleanup, etc. The exam is nothing like the practice one on this site. Last time I checked the practice on this site had 100 questions over domain 1 and nothing on the other (6?) domains. Read this site's study guide and do not put too much weight on their exam that is not near finished yet. Hope some of this helps! _________________ Who is this Joe fellow?
