Dear all.

I can't install AdobeReader in RedHat 9.0. When I install it "notice package not found" The following Error:

Package not found.

The following package could not be found on your system installation can not continue untill installed

Unlacatable package Required by


gtk2>2.4.0 AdobeReader_enu.

What the error message means is this:
Adobe reader uses the gtk2 library version 2.4.0 or greater to draw the widgets in the reader user interface. Without that library the program can't run.

The gtk library in various versions is the main widget library for the gnome desktop and many programs. The other very common widget library is 'qt', as used in the KDE desktop. Windows uses the MFC widget library, fwiw.

Red Hat 9 is a pretty old distro. You could get up to date libraries by moving to an up to date distro like Fedora 5. You might be able to find gtk2>2.4 for rh9, or not. Try http://rpmfind.net. You could also get the source for gtk2 and compile it yourself. That's a bit more complex. Post back if you want to go that route.
