    What's New @ MC MCSE:
    Happy New Year:
As we begin our 5th year, we'd like to start off by thanking all of you who visit and contribute to our site. Wishing you all a happy new year and we are expecting an incredible year for the site. I should also note that we did not send out a newsletter on December 15th as the holiday season is a very slow time of year for us.

    New Exam Resource Guides:
Added a 70-214 Resource Guide and tutorial titled Introduction to the Microsoft 70-214 Exam. This exam has not been released yet so there are currently very few resources out there. More will be added as they become available.

We also added resource guides for Prosoft's CIW Security professional (1D0-470) and CIW Internetworking professional (1D0-460).

    Study Guide Update:
Added a new tutorial titled "Understanding Compression and Encrypted File Systems" to our 70-270 Study Guide.

    New CCNA Practice Questions:
Added 21 new questions to our CCNA Practice Exam making a total of 76 free questions.

    Article Discusses Test Piracy
Certification Magazine has released an in-depth look at piracy in the certification industry, its effects and some of the ways in which it will likely be dealt with. One possible solution is discussed in the news item below this one.

Check out the full article here.

    Microsoft's New Testing Formats
Microsoft has announced new types of questions aimed at providing a more realistic representation of on-the-job skills. Jason Zandri has written an excellent overview of these new question formats for us that can be found here.

    Upgrading Microsoft Certs To .NET
Remember the Microsoft upgrade exam from Windows NT to the Windows 2000 MCSE designation? It was incredibly long, difficult and most people failed it. Microsoft has announced that the upgrade procedure should be easier between the Windows 2000 and .NET tracks because of the similarities between these environments.

The upgrade exam for MCSE and MCSA certifications will likely involve 1 or 2 exams that more closely match other Microsoft certification exams.

    Read more about this here.

CBT Nuggets offers top quality CBT products covering MCSA, MCSE, MCSD, CCNA, A+, Network+, Server+, Linux+ and MOUS certifications. Check out the free demos at their web site!

    Prosoft Not For Sale Anymore
An article by Certcities.com, states that Prosoft Training, the owner of the CIW certification series, is no longer for sale due to economic hardships. Instead, they have decided to cut costs and try to return to profitability.

    Training Directory Update
We recently discovered that many of the books listed in our Training Directory were out of date and no longer for sale. Furthermore, new releases have occurred that had not been listed. We are in the process of updating these links and it should be complete within a week.

We used to have a "Report Dead Link" feature, however, there were a lot of idiots that thought it was funny to click on them repeatedly and flood our email box. So thanks to them, you will now have to email us with any dead links that you find.

MS Office Certs For College Credit?
Microsoft Office Specialist certifications for Microsoft Word 2002, Excel 2002, PowerPoint 2002, Access 2002, Outlook 2002 (collectively, Microsoft Office XP) have each been recommended by the American Council on Education (ACE) for one semester hour of lower division, college credit. Microsoft Office Specialist certification for Microsoft Project 2002 has also been recommended for lower or upper division credit. Individuals who already hold these certifications can also apply for college credit.

There are 1,200 colleges and universities in the United States that are ACE members. While the college or university you attend will decide for themselves whether to grant credit and waive associated tuition requirements, they rely upon ACE credit recommendations to formulate their policies. It is best to contact the admissions office at your college or university to see if they will be offering this.
