    What's New @ MC MCSE:
    Not Much:
OK, we don't have much of anything new to report for MC MCSE, although, we have spent quite a bit of time on our sister site TechTutorials. We recently cleaned out our database and removed all of the dead links.

We have also been spending a good deal of time on marketing and promotion. Our sites will be featured in several high profile newsletters which will help more people realize what they are missing if they haven't been to our sites.

We are still planning to launch several new practice tests, but are waiting for them to be developed. It should be anytime now!!!

    CheetSheets Owner Sentencing Delayed
CheetSheets.com owner Robert R. Keppel was originally scheduled for sentencing today (11/01/02) for his criminal activity involving the sale of Microsoft exam questions which were purchased from an undisclosed source in Pakistan. His sentencing has been delayed until November 22, 2002. We will keep you posted!

The details about this specific case can be found here. If interested, you can also check out other cases that have been prosecuted under the Economic Espionage Act here.

    Network+ To Go Adaptive?
According to an article on CertCities web site, CompTIA is considering switching the Network+ certification exam to an adaptive format.

For more information, read the full article.

CBT Nuggets has release MCSA Exam-Pack 70-218 which includes 7 Hours of Video on 1 CDROM. Be sure to check out their free demos at their web site!

Product Review: Cisco Access Lists Field Guide
One of the biggest added benefits you can bring to your employer as a CCNA is to configure an access list. This will help protect your employers data from accidental or intrusive attackers. During the CCNA test, you will see questions on access lists. Why stop at the little information that your cert book may give you. This small book will give you the ins and outs of Cisco access lists in an almost pain-free manner.

After reading Cisco Access Lists Field Guide by Gil Held & Kent Hundley (ISBN 0-07-212335-4), all I have to say is Wow, I wish this was book was smaller so that it could fit in my front pocket at work. I have never seen an IT book explain a topic so well. This book is written in a well-balanced way so that the newbie can easily read it. But yet the most experienced pro will still want it on his/her desk at work to refer back to.

The first chapter starts out by stating that if you know your stuff, skip to chapter four. But for the newbie or the old hand that may feel a little rusty, the first four chapters will bring you right up to speed so you have a firm understanding of how a router works. This book will also show you all the tricks that will make your day so much better. Tricks like how to edit a configuration file with your word processor and then upload it back to your router (something I always wanted to know how to do, but I never had a TFTP server to try it and my certification book did not cover it).

I would not have believed how easily the basic functioning of a router could be explained. Held and Hundley give you the information you need to get on a router and start configuring an access list. The book also covers even the most complex access lists. From standard IP access lists to reflexive access lists to context-based access lists and everything in between,

Held and Hundley start the advanced chapters with an overview which will give you all the hows and whys. Then they challenge you with several real-world scenarios and provide the solutions with a great explanation. I feel the solutions with explanations are one of the most valuable parts of the book. It real makes you feel experienced in the topic.

If you are thinking of going after your CCNA, I would highly recommend this book. It will make great supplemental reading to your cert book. This is also a book that you will take to work and use over and over again. This book will more than pay for itself in the competence you will achieve in one of the most important areas in Cisco routing.
