Newsletter #4 - Jul 09 1999
Back to archive

WELCOME:
Welcome to our 4th edition and welcome to our many new members! I have decided that I won't put any time constraints on how often this newsletter will be sent out. It will just be sent out when I feel it is ready.

PLEASE HELP:
How can you help us? Please vote for our site by clicking the link below and vote everytime you come to the site, it only takes 5 seconds. The votes improve our ranking at Cramsession and allow you to view a list of almost 100 other MCSE sites. We lost our 1st place rank yesterday, but if you all click the link below, I think we can get it back. Currently, about 10% of our visitors are voting. We would like to get that number up to 20%. Thanks!!! http://www.cramsession.com/cgi-bin/topsites/topsites.cgi?jsprague

WHAT'S NEW:
That new domain name is still coming. We are looking into a particular web hosting company and are on the brink of signing with them. I would use my own NT Server, but there are way too many of you currently visiting the site(that's a good thing) and my connection is way too slow to handle the traffic.

Have began updating the "Guide for Newbies" as there has been a lot of interest in it and we have been receiving a lot of questions that I think can be answered there. More to come...

YOUR FUTURE AS AN IT PROFESSIONAL:
As many of you have read, the US Department of Commerce released the results of a study that found that the IT industry will be needing 1.3 million new IT professionals by the year 2006. That sounds really good, but there are many more factors to consider. The study is published online in PDF format at: http://www.ta.doc.gov/reports/itsw/Digital.pdf It is 132 pages long, but it is good reading for both those who are already in the IT industry and for those who are thinking about getting into it. For those of you outside the United States, I would recommend that you read it also. Very similar patterns will probably be seen in your location.

LINKS OF NOTE:
You have probably already discovered that most MCSE sites(including ours) provide a "standard" set of links to the favorite MCSE sites out there. In this section we will attempt to dig up other resources that you may not have seen before. Most of these links will not be to other MCSE sites, but these links will include information that will aid you in your journey to the MCSE or just plain general knowledge to make you a better IT professional. We do the searching for you.

TCP/IP
Would you like to read the RFCs for TCP/IP? You can at:
http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/

Here is a great TCP/IP FAQ. Very in-depth!
http://t2.technion.ac.il/~s2845543/tcpip-faq/default.htm

This link will not help you pass the IP exam, but if you are curious as to what will happen when the world runs out of IP addresses(almost there already) then read this:
http://playground.sun.com/pub/ipng/html/INET-IPng-Paper.html

Another TCP/IP tutorial.
http://suria.fke.utm.my/~alias/internet.html

NT
The Windows NT Resource Site has a lot of information to supplement your NT studies.
http://www.interlacken.com/winnt/default.htm

All Roads Lead to Windows NT. This site is a good NT tutorial.
http://www.globetrotting.com/windowsnt/windowsnt.htm

SQL
A great interactive SQL tutorial.
http://torresoft.netmegs.com/

There will be more of these coming in future newsletters as we discover them. If you have any favorite sites that you think would help others, then by all means send them in to [email protected] .
