BOOK REVIEW:
We took some time to check out Mark Minasis "Mastering Windows 2000 Server" published by Sybex. Many of you are familiar with his previous achievement "Mastering NT 4.0 Server" which was a highly acclaimed book. This one is already receiving the same level of recognition.

Fortunately, not much has changed from his earlier work. This book is very in depth(1,593 pages), yet explained in terms that anyone can understand, which to a large extent is the reason that Minasis books have been so popular. He also isnt afraid to share his opinions on strength and weaknesses of the product and includes a lot of other information that you wont find in traditional MCSE books.

While this book is not specifically geared toward certification, it is an excellent resource in this arena simply because it covers nearly everything. The goal of certification is not to get a piece of paper, but rather to learn how to "master" technology in a production environment. This book can help get you there and unlike many certification books, makes an excellent desk reference for later use.

For those that are not pursuing certification, "Mastering Windows 2000 Server" is a must have book for reference purposes. Even if you are an expert, we cant remember everything and must consult other sources at times. This one has many of the answers you will be looking for and there is definitely something here for everyone.

The books one fault is the index, which is fairly difficult to navigate and makes finding what you are looking a bit more tedious than some other texts. Overall we rate this book 9.5 out of 10 and for $39.99 it is an excellent value.
