WHATS NEW:
Just redesigned the site again(not major). It seems as though we are doing this more and more often as of late.

We have created a brand new Topsites program for webmasters that can be found at http://www.mcmcse.com/topsites/index.html.

We have spent the last couple of days updating all of the dead links and added some new ones on both MC MCSE and TechTutorials.com. Specifically, check out http://www.mcmcse.com/win2k/practice/exams.shtml. Here you will find links to free Windows 2000 practice exams and there are quite a few already available.

We are currently in the process of putting together a practice exam for the Windows 2000 Professional Exam(70-210) that should be available in about a week.

NT 4.0 CERTIFICATION TO REMAIN ALIVE???
Thats right, the NT 4.0 track may stay alive thanks to a company called Lanop. While the NT 4.0 track will be retired by Microsoft, Lanop intends to keep it alive by offering the NTCIP certification which will be created by Lanop and several other potential training providers.

The folks at Lanop feel that Microsoft is pressuring customers and technical support to upgrade to Windows 2000 and dont feel that many corporations are ready for this step. Furthermore, they assert that it is important for those that are certified to remain certified on the products that are still currently in use in the marketplace.

NT Certified Independent Professional(NTCIP) tests will become available as soon as Microsoft kills the NT 4.0 track on Dec 31st, 2000. To earn an NTCIP 4 tests will be required as follows: Basic Networking, NT Workstation, NT Server and NT Enterprise. Those who have already passed these tests in the MCSE NT 4.0 track and have proof of their credentials, will automatically be given an NTCIP certification.

Before anyone gets their hopes up too high, remember that Lanop still has an uphill battle to face that could prevent this certification from ever happening. Microsoft could very well decide that they will not allow this to happen and get their lawyers all over Lanop. More importantly, the certification must build a lot of credibility in a short amount of time. Nobody is going to take a certification exam if they do not think that it will actually help them. If an overwhelming number of employers and MCSEs/MCPs have never heard of this certification, then it will wind up as a great idea that essentially sits in the back of a closet somewhere.

For more information on the NTCIP and Lanop visit http://lanop.com/ntcip.

BOOK REVIEW:
Our Review of New Riders Windows 2000 Professional Training Guide- A Complete Package!!! The MCSE Windows 2000 Professional Training Guide is designed for learning, not memorizing. New Riders Windows 2000 Professional Training Guide is more than just a book, it is a complete training package that includes a book and CD.

We have always been partial to books that speak to the inexperienced and yet contain everything that the seasoned professional needs. New Riders has accomplished the perfect combination. Furthermore, unlike many of the MCSE texts available, this one makes an excellent desk reference after one passes their exam.

The book is very well written, easy to read and while it is 950 pages in length, it does not take long to get through as the book is full of screenshots, charts, and other figures that compliment the text well.

At the end of every chapter, you will find scenarios which are excellent for putting the previously read material into the context of the real world. Following the scenarios are exercises and exam questions. The exercises will walk you through performing various tasks in Windows 2000 Professional and we recommended that you have access to Windows 2000 when going through these. Finally, the exam questions are long, scenario based questions that will prepare you for the style of questions that will be presented on the real exam. They are fairly involved and difficult and do a great job of helping you assess your proficiency in a particular subject area. The answers include detailed explanations.

The CD includes Exam Gear practice exams, the entire book in electronic format and other various utilities. The Exam Gear test engine is very robust and intuitive with more features than the previous versions of the Transcender engine and more questions in the pool as well. There are 3 different testing modes to choose from: Study Mode, Practice Exam and Adaptive Exam. While the study mode is very helpful as it is the only mode that contains explanations with the answers, we found the inclusion of a standard format and adaptive format exam to be exceptional as Microsoft often changes the formats of exams during their lifecycle. This package not only prepares you for the material itself, but for the testing environment as well.

This package contains everything needed to pass exam 70-210. New Riders has a true winner with MCSE Windows 2000 Professional training guide and we are truly impressed. We give it an A+ and will definitely recommend it.
