BE CAREFUL:
Well, we all know that the internet is still growing like crazy and new websites are popping up everywhere you look as the dotcom craze continues. Is this really helping anyone? I cant speak for the rest of you, but I find that it is becoming increasingly difficult to find what I am looking for these days. You go to a search engine and search for MCSE and find that half of the links are dead. Then you finally get to an MCSE site and find that half of the links are dead. We have run into this situation dozens of times while looking for new links to provide our visitors. Well, dead links are an annoyance but dont do any real damage. What we would like to warn you about are sites that are still up and running, but arent updated regularly - especially those that posted a little bit of Windows 2000 information just so they could "stay in the game".

Make sure that when you are heeding advice and absorbing information form a certification site, that they are posting current information. As we transition from the NT 4.0 track to the Windows 2000 track, this is absolutely critical as the advice and information is changing very rapidly right now. If you are in doubt as to how up to date a website or their information is, check the following:
  1. Go to Microsofts certification website at http://www.microsoft.com/mcp. They obviously have the most current and up to date info.
  2. Check the website and see if they have text at the bottom of their main page that says "last updated on xxxx"
  3. Email the author of the site and find out when the information was last updated. If you do not receive a response, then move along.
  4. Find a forum such as those at http://www.2000tutor.com/cgi-bin/Ultimate.cgi and verify the information with your peers if you have any doubts.
It is better to do a little bit of extra research than to get burned by incorrect our outdated information.

Here is your homework for the week : Do you feel that it is becoming more difficult to find what you are looking for on the internet as it grows? Do you often run into websites that have not been updated for a long time, or provide inaccurate or outdated information? Do you get frustrated when looking for free information and resources and constantly run into commercial websites? Do you feel that it should be easier to find the free resources that you are looking for? Any proposed solutions? We would appreciate it if you sent your comments to [email protected]
