:: Cisco Takes Steps To Protect Exams ::

Cisco has finalized plans to implement an enhanced test center network for their Cisco certification exams in China, Hong Kong, India and Pakistan. The introduction of the new test centers is designed to safeguard the value of Cisco certifications in the IT professional marketplace. Focusing on security, the new test centers will employ advanced security technologies and newly refined procedures. All test centers will be centrally located and will be operated by Prometric personnel.

The enhanced test center network is planned to be fully operational beginning May 1, 2007. Once employed, all Cisco certification testing in China, Hong Kong, India and Pakistan will only be available exclusively through a limited set of test center locations. Mobile test centers will be added to support the Network Academy on designated dates that will be communicated to Networking Academy students in advance of the test events.

After the introductory period, the features of the enhanced test center network in China, Hong Kong, India and Pakistan may or may not become permanent features at VUE and Prometric locations. Cisco continues to partner with both Pearson VUE and Thomson Prometric outside of these four countries.

:: Article: Dazed & Confused by the New Microsoft Certifications ::

By Cormac Doyle

I have to admit to have been more than a little confused and bewildered by the changes in Microsoft's certification structures, and with the release of Exchange 2007 already upon us, and the release of Windows Longhorn looming on the horizon, I feel that it's time to try and reclaim a little sanity.

The old Windows 2003 certification track was relatively straight-forward and easy to understand even if it did require a lot of work to complete. You would sit your core requirements, your electives, and your design exams ... and presto! - with 7 exams, you could call yourself an MCSE on Windows 2003. If you wanted to certify on Exchange you had to do the entire Server certification track, and then add in the "Messaging" electives. Similarly, if you wanted to show your Security specialisation you had to do the full Server certification track, and then add in the extra Security specialisation exams. However, with Windows Longhorn, all of this is being changed.

Firstly - the MCSA and MCSE certification will not be carried over in that form to Windows Longhorn; you now need to certify as a Technical Specialist or IT Professional in a specified "Technology" (such as SQL 2005 or Exchange 2007) or "job role" (such as being a "Messaging Administrator"). This does not mean that the MCSE or MCSA has suddenly ceased to exist - you can still receive those certifications for Windows 2003 (and Windows 2000 - for the next few months), but there simply will not be an "MCSE" for Longhorn/Vista.

Secondly - all new certifications are linked to the life-cycle of the associated technology ... so when Microsoft eventually move Exchange 2007 to "End of Life", then anyone certified on Exchange 2007 will cease to be certified unless they have re-certified with a newer technology.

In this article, I hope to break down the some of the elements of the current 2000/2003 certification track, and endeavour to map those over to the new certification tracks that will becoming available over the next few months.

New Reviews:

MCSE Windows 2000 Active Directory Services Design Exam Cram 2 (Exam Cram 70-219)
This book is great for review and a high level overview of the exam, but that is about it. The test software does not mirror the tests in the book or the actual test. The end of chapter test are simplistic and it does not show you how to set anything up. If you need a quick review for the test, this is an east read, if you need to pickup some AD information, you would be better off with another book. - Added 04-10-2007 by johndoe

A+ Certification All-in-One Exam Guide, Sixth Edition
Very good cert prep book. Covers all the cert objectives in plain language and avoids confusing terminology. Also uses real-world experience to illustrate points. Great for someone who is starting from scratch. - Added 04-13-2007 by freetech
