:: CCIE Voice Lab Update ::

Effective July 17, 2006, all CCIE Voice lab locations will begin introducing Cisco Unity Express Network Module (NM-CUE) into the exam racks. Along with the NM-CUE introduction, the lab will also be upgrading to IOS version 12.4(3a) and the equipment software to the following versions:

Cisco Call Manager 4.1(3) with latest SR
Cisco Unity 4.0(5)
Cisco Unity Express 2.1(2)
Cisco Customer Response Server/IP Contact Center Express 4.0(1)

All CCIE Voice candidates taking exams on July 17 or later should be familiar with the updated IOS, software and equipment, although the installations will take place over several weeks and it is possible some candidates may not see the new software and equipment in their exams.

:: CompTIA Launches RFID+ ::

On March 28th, CompTIA announced the launch of their new radio frequency identification certification titled RFID+. CompTIA states according to their surveys, companies feel that there is a skills shortage with this technology that they predict is on the cusp of a boom.

:: Future of IT in the USA ::

The Society for Information Management recenty published the results of their research into the current state and expected future trends of the IT industry.

Some of the key points were as follows:

The largest growth in domestic (non-outsourced) IT jobs will occur in small and medium sized business and an increase is expected between now and 2008.

Baby boomer retirements will begin in 2011, opening up quite a few jobs.

Business skills represent 5 of the top 10 skills wanted by employers for their IT staff. This is something that many of us have been saying here for years - now you know its true. This is also another good argument for going to college.

Project management skills were also highly desired by employers.

:: Microsoft Unveils Linux Site ::

In a suprise move, Microsoft has unveiled a site dedicated to discussions between the Open Source community and Microsoft. The site claims that its goal is to address technical issues and make improvements with regards to the interaction between Microsoft technologies and open source software.

This book is way too heavy for everyday reading. Splitting it into two volumes (one for the core exam, one for the OS technologies exam) might have been a better idea.
