Bad News, Good News: A little over a week ago, I received some bad news. Foxynox told me that he is no longer able to moderate for us due to time constraints. He was an excellent moderator who contributed a lot to the site during his 3 year tenure. The good news is that we had a very good replacement available in Avon1982. He has excellent knowledge of Microsoft technologies, has helped a ton of people in here, and has provided excellent answers to questions. We are very grateful to have him on the team! Coming Soon: We have at least 50 new Security+ test questions that are being written for us by a gracious member. They should be ready to go before our next newsletter.
The Linux Professional Institute (LPI) has announced that they have raised their worldwide exam prices from $100 to $150. The actual price may vary by country as LPI allows their partners and affiliates to set their own prices. LPI is a premier Linux certification vendor. For more information, click here.
Microsoft is offering free e-learning courses for SQL Server 2005 until November 1, 2006. There are 9 courses available that usually cost $99 apiece. For more information, click here.
Microsoft launched an upgrade exam in early March that partially updates MCDBAs to MCITP Database Administrator by Using SQL Server 2005. The new exam is numbered 70-447. In order to complete the upgrade, candidates must also take exam #70–431 Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - Implementation and Maintenance.
We have just learned from an article on CertCities.com that the Electronics Technician Association offers a "rollover" program for some CompTIA certifications as follows: If you are A+ certified, you can earn ETA's Computer Service Technician (CST) certification by paying a $49 fee. If you are Network+ certified, you can earn ETA's Certified Network Systems Certification (CNST) certification by paying a $69 fee. While these certifications are not heavily recognized in the industry, this is an easy way to add a couple of extra relevant certifications to your resume. For more information, click here.
