:: What's New @ MC MCSE ::

Not a whole lot new at the moment. This is largely due to the fact that we are working on a glossary for the site which is taking up a lot of time. Hoping to have the glossary done by the new year.

New Practice Test Questions
We have added another 15 questions to our Exchange Server 2003 (70-284) practice test making a total of 50 questions. Our free practice tests can be found in our Testing Center.

:: 70-293/70-294 Simulations Delayed ::

In our last newsletter we mentioned that the simulation exams for 70-293 and 70-294 were in beta and it was expected that the final versions might be released by the end of the year. Microsoft has announced that these simulation exams have been delayed until late January, 2006 citing continuing feedback on 70-290 and 70-291 simulation feedback. Full story

:: 700,000 Cisco Certs ::

In an interview with CertCities.com, Cisco revealed that they have awarded over 700,000 certifications worldwide. 12,600 of those have achieved their CCIE certification.

:: CCIE Lab Exam Update ::

On January 1, 2006 all CCIE® Routing and Switching lab locations will introduce the Cisco 3825 Integrated Services Router into the exam racks. This router supports Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces, and will eventually replace the 2600 and 3600 series models.

In addition, the accompanying Cisco IOS® Software releases will be upgraded:

* 12.2 mainline for Cisco Catalyst® 3550 switches
* 12.3 mainline for the Cisco 2600 and 3600 series routers
* 12.4 mainline for Cisco 3700 and 3800 series routers

Although these updates will take several weeks to fully implement, you should familiarize yourself with the updated Cisco IOS Software releases and equipment before taking a CCIE Routing and Switching exam on or after January 1, 2006.

:: New Entry Level Wireless Certification ::

Planet3Wireless has announced a new entry level wireless certification titled Wireless# (pronounced "Wireless Sharp"). This new certification will cover Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, WiMax, ZigBee and Infrared and require the passing of 1 exam.

The new exam will be released in beta on October 24th and the final version should be available in January. Full story

:: Introduction to Cisco's CCVP Certification ::

I hardly have to tell you how important voice technologies are in today's networks; what we all need to keep in mind to maximize our career potential is how important knowing voice is going to be tomorrow.

We've always got to look forward in IT, both in our work and out studies. Cisco, always the pioneer in technical certifications, now offers a Cisco Certified Voice Professional certification that is gaining a lot of attention from IT professionals looking to add to their skills and their resume.

Cisco's CCVP track is a rigorous five-exam track that requires you to earn your CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) certification before getting started. The five exams cover a myriad of topics - they're not giving this one away. Here are the exam numbers and codes you'll need to know to register for the exams:

642-642 Quality Of Service (QOS)
642-432 Cisco Voice Over IP (CVOICE)
642-425 IP Telephony Troubleshooting (IPTT)
642-444 Cisco IP Telephony (CIPT)
642-452 Cisco Voice Gateways (GWGK)

Many newly-minted CCNAs wonder if they should pursue this or the Security Professional certification immediately after getting their CCNA. I recommend that a new CCNA pursue and achieve the CCNP before going after these more specialized certifications. While it is not required by Cisco, the routing and switching knowledge your will acquire on your way to the CCNP will be invaluable to your career as well as being helpful with your CCVP pursuits.

Besides, these certifications won't be going anywhere soon. Think of how valuable you will be with a CCNP, CCVP, and CCSP.

To your success,
