What's New @ MC MCSE:

We have a lot to discuss in this issue so please bear with us and be sure to read through everything in this section. It is very exciting news!

Big Changes Coming:
I wanted to let everybody know that we are going to make some MAJOR improvements to the site. We had been selling practice exam software at certifypro.com, but have come to the realization that we are not a software company and should focus our efforts on what we are good at - providing free resources for our visitors. So, we have decided to move the full tests from the other site to our free Testing Center on this site. In addition, over time we will be upgrading our online test engine.

So what does this mean to you? When the project is complete, you will have the ability to practice for your certification exams using our free tests. There will no longer be a need to purchase over-priced practice exams and we will be the undisputed world leader in free online certification tests.

How long will it stay free? That depends entirely on you and the rest of our visitors. If you visit our advertisers and purchase your other certification training products through our Training Directory, then they may stay free forever. If our visitors use the site and then leave without helping us out in return, then the exams will probably not stay free.

A+ Core Hardware Exam Expanded:
In accordance with the above announcement, we have already begun moving questions over from the other site. We have added 210 questions to our CompTIA A+ Core Hardware practice exam making a total of 270 free questions.

A+ Operating Systems Exam Expanded:
We have also moved an additional 50 questions over to our CompTIA A+ OS exam making a total of 100 available. Many more will be added soon.

Cisco Updates Recertification Policy

Cisco is pleased to announce that effective October 1, 2004, passing any CCIE written exam will recertify any associate-level, professional-level and Cisco Qualified Specialist certification. The policy to have CCIE written exams count towards recertifying other certifications will offer candidates the opportunity to pursue lifelong learning while ensuring that existing certifications remain current. Besides adding the CCIE written exam option, some other recent updates to the recertification policy include:

Candidates can now recertify the CCNP and/or CCDP certification, either by passing the 642-891 Composite exam, or by passing both the 642-801 BSCI and 642-811 BCMSN exams, or by passing a CCIE written exam.

Candidates can now recertify the CCIP certification, either by passing the 642-691 BGP+MPLS exam, or by passing both the 642-661 BGP and 642-611 MPLS exams, or by passing a CCIE written exam.

Candidates can now recertify the CCNA and/or CCDA certification either by passing the current exam for that certification, or by passing any 642 level professional or specialist exam (excluding Sales Specialist), or by passing a CCIE written exam.

CompTIA Launches Linux+ Beta

CompTIA has released the Linux+ Beta which will be available until the end of November at Vue and Prometric testing centers. The beta version cost $75 and is identified as Exam #XK1-002.

Product Review: CBT Nuggets' Linux Combo Package

Reviewed by Alexis Laliberte - MC MCSE
I was really eager to evaluate this beautiful Linux material from CBT Nuggets as there aren't a lot of studying material for the Linux+ certification on the market. While installing the CBT wasn't as easy as they used to be (they are now using digital rights management), the content was very exciting!

First of all, let me tell you a word about the trainer: Perry Fizzano. This gentleman really knows his stuff! While some may find he speaks really fast, the feeling of being bombarded by useful tips and tricks is always appreciated when cramming for an exam: it makes you feel you receive what you paid for.

Perry will take you on a trip through the linux operating system. The first part of this combo package really focuses on the Linux+ certification. It gives you a good start and a basic foundation of the Linux operating system. I found the examples easy to understand and the demonstrations filled with day to day tricks that helped me in my job.

The second part of the combo package focuses on the Red Hat Certified Engineer certification. This part has walked me through a deep trek into the operating system. There was a lot of time spent on maintenance and troubleshooting which I found very useful. This also demonstrated that the author has genuine Linux experience (which is not always the case with trainers).

I found that this CBT Nugget was really built as a quick way to learn detailed information as well as a very good reference for any professional working with Linux.
