What's New @ MC MCSE:
Major Milestone Reached
On may 27th, we passed the 20,000 post mark in our forums. This is an achievement that I have been looking forward to for some time. It is confirmation that we are running one of the best and most popular certification forums on the internet. Thanks to all of you who post, moderate, and visit our site.

Major Linux+ Revision Coming
CompTIA has announced that their Linux+ certification will undergo a major revision in late 2004. Their press release states that more than 75% of the exam objectives will be changed from the 2001 version of this exam.

The new objectives introduce security and documentation categories while removing the troubleshooting category and significantly decreasing the hardware percentage. CompTIA has also increased the skill level recommendation from 6 months to 6 to 12 months of experience before taking this exam. If recent changes in the A+ exams are any indication, I would expect the new exam to be more difficult than the current one.

Most Lucrative College Degrees
An article published earlier this year by Money Magazine shows that Computer Engineering is the most lucrative college degree with an average starting salary of $53,117. Computer science came in 5th at $48,656 and Information Sciences running 7th at $42,108.

The article also states that the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) expects hiring of college graduates to increase 12.7 percent over last year.

MCP Magazine Changes
Microsoft Certified Professional Magazine will be changing their name to REDMOND Magazine in October of this year. In addition to current topics, the coverage will expand to cover the role that Microsoft products play in the I.T. industry and business. Most of the certification related materials will no longer be published in the magazine and will appear on the mcpmag.com web site instead.

MCP Magazine is offered for free to individuals who have acheived an MCP certification.

CBT Nuggets - IT Certification Training Videos
Get instructor-led training in your own home with these quality CBT video training packages. CBT Nuggets offers products for Microsoft, CompTIA, Cisco, Citrix, and RHCE certifications. Free demos avaialable.

MCP Secure Site Redesigned
Microsoft has redesigned the MCP secure web site and is offering a couple of new tools including a job search engine, a transcript sharing tool and and a certification planner. If you have MCP status, you can login to the site here.

Tax Deduct Your Training?
This may be possible if the "Technology Retraining And Investment Now Act of 2004" ("TRAIN ACT," HR 4392) bill passes. This bill is being sponsored by Representative Jerry Weller and would offer individuals and companies a tax credit for up to 50 percent of technical training costs up to $10,000. This could be used to cover certification exams as well.

New Microsoft Exam
Microsoft has released exam 70-285, Designing a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 Organization. This exam counts as a core credit towards the MCSE:Messaging and as an elective credit toward the MCSE certification on Windows 2003.

There is some confusion as to when this exam was actually released. The Microsoft web site shows that it was released on March 26th, however, it was only recently announced.

Training Directory Update
Our Training Directory is a place where you can learn more about certification books and products. We have 1 product review to list in this issue - please keep the reviews coming!

Cert21.com
Same problem as in their Net+ practice test; the questions look like they were written by someone who doesn't completely understand english, let alone the subject material. Questions are phrased awkwardly and many of the answers/explanations are flat out wrong.

If you can catch all the mistakes then you are ready to take the exam.
