WELCOME
Welcome to our first edition! This newsletter will provide updates to our site, hints, tips and hard to find links every month, possibly more often if there is demand for it(so far it appears that there is).

WHAT'S NEW:
The NT Server study guide is finally finished except for the browsing and NTFS vs FAT sections which will be completed in the next couple of days. For those of you who haven't stopped by in a while, we have also added online test questions for the NT Server exam. These can also be found in the study guides section.

MCP Magazine just released the results of the 4th annual salary survey. The results are not on their website yet so I will give you a brief summary of the important points. According to the survey, 50% of the people interviewed were having their certifications paid for by their employers, which is good news for all of us. As far as salaries go, the MCP title dropped slightly, but the MCSE title enjoyed about a 14% increase since the last survey. MCP Magazine speculated that this was due to the increase in number of years of experience for those with an MCSE. As for the MCP, there has been a huge increase in the number of them that probably accounted for the decrease. The detailed results should be posted at http://www.mcpmag.com/ shortly.

NEW TESTING FORMAT:
There is a new addition to the new testing format. As many of you may already know, Microsoft is using a new testing format that is a mix of the standard fixed length and adaptive exams and has now affected 3 exams. Initially, the Networking Essentials and TCP/IP exams became adaptive. Not too long after that, the rumor mill started that they were no longer adaptive. If fact, they were neither - they were the new hybrid exam, as I like to call it. Most recently, the NT Workstation has been converted to the new format as well. It appears that Microsoft hopes to convert all of the exams to this new format, which is a real hassle for those of us trying to give you accurate info due to the fact that the passing scores vary. It appears that there are "dummy" questions in the exams that are not counted and will affect the passing score. The worst part is that there still appears to be a disagreement as to whether these exams will let you go back and change your answers. Cramsession says that you can and FTQ says that you can't. Unfortunately, both are reliable sources. If you know the answer to this question, please email us at: [email protected] and we will update our info. I could write an entire paper on this, but why should I when Wang Wei has already done that for us. For more information check out his paper on the new testing format at: http://www.ftq.com/adaptive.html This article explains both the adaptive and the new hybrid formats very well.

LINKS OF NOTE:
You have probably already discovered that most MCSE sites(including ours) provide a "standard" set of links to the favorite MCSE sites out there. In this section we will attempt to dig up other resources that you may not have seen before. Most of these links will not be to other MCSE sites, but these links will include information that will aid you in your journey to the MCSE or just plain general knowledge to make you a better IT professional. In essence, we are doing the searching for you.
